Our history.

Coxx Mobile Systems, formerly known as “Alco,” was founded in 1916 by Alphons Cox (Al-Co). Alphons initially manufactured wheels and later farm carts. From the beginning, the company was at the forefront of technological developments. Since the mid-1930s, Alco produced complete vehicles and various types of trailers on a larger scale.

Alphons’ only son Gerard took over the company in 1960 and responded to the growing demand for more luxurious transport and distribution options. Gerard specialized the company in commercial trailers, particularly boat trailers.

After his untimely death, Gerard’s son René took the helm in 1974. René, a technically skilled inventor, continued the company’s innovative character. He developed special low-floor chassis and custom vehicles and left his mark on the existing portfolio by continuously developing it further. In 1990, a special air suspension for light commercial vehicles was developed, and in the same year, an electric car was introduced. In 1994, Alco even won the award for electric car of the year with the MicroCar!

Innovation and development.

Innovation and development became Alco’s major competitive advantage, and in 1997, René decided to streamline the portfolio and focus the company on developing and selling special chassis and trailers. To strengthen this new proposition and distinguish itself from the emerging German company Al-ko in the same market, Alco was renamed “Coxx Mobile Systems.” After 40 years under René, his eldest son Robert took over the company’s leadership in 2014.

Robert now heads a dynamic company with a rich history. To sustainably market the accumulated wealth of knowledge and quality products, the focus has shifted to standardization and volume creation of the product lines: X-Low low chassis and the LiftBoxx smart city distribution solutions.

Coxx Mobile Systems USA.

In 2015, Robert closed the largest deal in Coxx history with an American minibus manufacturer for the development and delivery of all their chassis for the American and Canadian markets. This “game-changing” product also transformed the way Coxx operates. Alongside custom solutions, volume production was initiated. Coxx Mobile Systems USA was established to serve and supply the USA and Canada.

The X-Low chassis was nominated as the most innovative product of 2016 by the Chamber of Commerce after a major innovation into a modular system made of high-quality S700MC steel. The components for this lightweight chassis are produced in series, while the ‘Meccano-like’ construction method allows for custom solutions, accelerated assembly, and delivery of chassis kits.

In America, the Coxx X-Low minibus chassis underwent the Altoona Test: a rigorous simulation of 150,000 miles of lifespan. The smart construction of high-quality steel, equipped with air suspension on all axles, achieved the highest score ever in Altoona’s history.

Coxx Mobile Systems UK Ltd.

Coxx Mobile Systems UK Ltd. was established in 2017. Locally managed by a team of experienced and renowned minds from the sector, motivated to challenge the monopolistic established order with high-quality chassis and distribution solutions. At the end of 2017, the X-Low Car Transport concept was launched. A total solution for transporting vehicles up to approximately 1,600 kg within a category B driving license.

From 2018, the new MAN TGE and VW Crafter cabs are equipped with low chassis by Coxx. The lightweight solutions for the B driving license are enthusiastically received by the market and increase Coxx’s market share, particularly in Germany. Within Coxx USA, chassis series production is relocated to America, making the Coxx X-Low minibus chassis compliant with the ‘Buy America Act.’ With this certification, the Coxx chassis becomes available to American governments and larger bus companies.

Market and product development.

In 2019, Coxx decided to fully focus on market and product development of the X-Low chassis for front-wheel-drive commercial vehicles and minibusses. The Liftboxx business unit was spun off and continued independently outside Coxx in the new firm CX-Liftboxx SpezialFahrzeuge GmbH, led by René Cox. The aftercare for delivered vehicles in terms of service, warranty, and parts delivery continues unchanged and is carried out by CX-Liftboxx SpezialFahrzeuge GmbH.
